Oliver Farnworth has officially joined the Coronation Street cobbles as Michael's (Les Dennis) son Gavin, but just what should we expect from the handsome new addition in the episodes to come?
Here, Oliver talks about the new character, his past and more in an ITV interview.
On Gavin's thoughts about receiving a letter from his father, Michael
"Well he's in two minds really because it's been such a long time since they'veseen each other, it's been twenty odd years so I imagine he's got to the pointwhere he's never known or ever had this father figure in his life. So, to come backin his life now there must be a bit of anger there, confusion and frustration butintrigue as well ultimately and that's what spurs him into sorting this meetingout and going to meet Michael".
On his first impressions of Michael and Gail
"I think he warms to him quite quickly and there's a scene in the Bistro wherethey meet up, its quite emotional for both of them I think and there is a bit of icebetween them initially but fortunately Gail is there to spur the conversation onthen ultimately they relax a bit, have a beer and see each other for who they are".
On getting past resenting his father
"I think he'll like to think he's got to that stage but probably meeting Michaelstirs up a lot of stuff and there is that part inside him that feels like he's owedsomething".
On hearing about Audrey's finances and Gail's nest egg
"Well we know from earlier on he's in financial difficulties, he has bills mountingup, he's unemployed and there's a scene where he is eating beans out of panbecause he just doesn't have any cash. Going back to that child in him, perhaps hefeels a bit hard done by and feels he is actually owed something. As ugly as thatis, subconsciously that's what he is feeling".
On Gavin's childhood
"The bits that I know show his mum has been fairly stable throughout his life. I'mnot sure if she has met someone else but I'm sure there have been other fatherfigures in his life but I don't know if there is anyone that is permanent. So yes,she has been a constant in his life that he looks up to and respects her.
On Gavin's instant spark with Steph and potential connection
"Yeah, I think they do. Again I think this is weariness that he is in too deep, toosoon. One minute he has woken up in his flat receiving this letter and within afew days of a week he bonded with this family and got a job in the bistro: his lifehas just changed really quickly. To then take on board a possible attraction toone of ladies he works with is almost too much for him to comprehend but thereis an initial spark, definitely. There is trepidation on his part because it's justsomething else to get tangled up in at this stage".
On Michael's dramatic scenes coming up where he collapses
"I think it's just complete shock. Initially the weight of the situation could bepassing through his mind, questioning if it's his fault because they have rushedand bonded so quickly from not really knowing each other at all. Has it been tomuch stress and strain on Michael?"
