Phillip Schofield will "never forgive himself" for having an affair with a younger male colleague.
The 61-year-old star - who has daughters Molly, 30, and 27-year-old Ruby with wife Stephanie Lowe - stepped down from his long-running presenting role on 'This Morning' last week amid rumours of a feud with co-star Holly Willoughby but he soon confirmed that he had had an affair with a young runner on the show before he came out live on air in February 2020 and has now described the whole scandal as his "sorriest secret."
Speaking in his first televised interview since quitting ITV, he told the BBC: "This was my biggest, sorriest secret. [Steph and I] are separated but we're very much together. Oh my God, can you imagine how difficult that conversation was? I will never...let's just say that it was an incredibly difficult conversation.
"The most difficult conversation I have ever had to have and she is extremely disappointed because I lied to her but she wished me well today. My daughters were - I called them and I said I had something to tell them. They came to see me and they were unbelievable and I looked at them and thought 'Well you got that right.' They don't think I'm a bully, they don't think I'm toxic. And they know the man I am, they know I screwed up, Royally.
"To him [the young man in question], I am the most sorry. By getting involved with me, I have caused you so much pain, and I...I will never forgive myself."
The former 'Dancing on Ice' host went on to add that he made a "bad judgment call" and thinks that things could have turned out "very differently" for everyone involved had he chosen not to act.
He added: "I made a bad judgment call. And that if only you knew, in one moment, if I'd had the judgment I'd had for 41 years, if I'd used it in that moment, things would be very different for everybody."
