This week, we got our first look - or indeed our first listen to - the trailer for upcoming Apple TV+ original series Calls. Featuring an all-star cast, which includes Nick Jonas, Pedro Pascal, Rosario Dawson, Lily Collins, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and, Aubrey Plaza, it looks to be one of the most mind-bending, unique television shows of the modern era.
You can check out the teaser for yourself below:
Based on the CANAL+ French series of the same name from creator Timothée Hochet, the series hopes to immerse viewers in a way unlike anything they've experience before. Across nine episodes, short-form, bone-chilling stories will be told, with Fede Álvarez serving as director.
Though the titular calls may at first seem to be unconnected, they soon become surreal and anything but ordinary, as our characters face a handful of unsettling happenings.
Along with the aforementioned cast, Nicholas Braun, Clancy Brown, Mark Duplass, Karen Gillan, Judy Greer, Paul Walter Hauser, Danny Huston, Riley Keough, Joey King, Stephen Lang, Jaeden Martell, Paola Nuñez, Edi Patterson, Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz and Jennifer Tilly all also star.
If that’s not a star-studded roster, then I’m not sure what is!
The French-language version of the series is to premiere on CANAL+ in select markets, where the service is available.
This is exactly the sort of experimental content we expected to see make its way to the small screen in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
With star power and a bit of imagination, those working behind-the-scenes have delivered what could be one of the most genre-defying releases of all-time, with Apple happily snapping up the rights to start paving the way.
Calls joins an incredible slate of original content put out by Apple TV+, which also includes critically-acclaimed dramas such as The Morning Show starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston; and Defending Jacob, with Avengers star Chris Evans alongside Michelle Dockery and the young yet beyond-his-time-talented Jaeden Martell.
All nine episodes of Calls Season 1 debut exclusively on Apple TV+ on Friday, March 19th, 2021.
