If you’ve been looking for another twisty, mind-bending television series, then there’s not too long to wait until Nine Perfect Strangers hits Amazon Prime Video worldwide (excluding the United States and China) this August.
To whet our appetites, the streaming service has dropped the first full-length trailer which you can see for yourself below:
Based on the New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, by Australian author Liane Moriarty, the show will focus on the journeys of the titular nine strangers who are all brought together at a wellness resort, that promises to transform their lives and put them on a better path.
Over 10 days, the resort’s director Marsha, played by Nicole Kidman, will watch over them and put them through a series of tasks that she promises will help “fix” each of them, reinvigorating both their bodies and minds.
Of course, once you see that the series is from the same teams behind Big Little Lies and The Undoing, it becomes clear that there are going to be a whole plethora of shocks and surprises along the way.
In the new trailer, we see some willing and some skeptic guests of the resort taking part in some pretty brutal "wellness" tasks, such as digging their own graves, before lying in it and having dirt thrown on them.
There are also some moments where it's not entirely clear what's going on, but it looks like some of the resort's invited few are being put through their paces in some terrifying and thrilling ways.
Melissa McCarthy features as one of the guests, in her first project alongside Kidman, with an all-star cast coming together that also includes Luke Evans, Tiffany Boone, Regina Hall, Melvin Gregg, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Shannon, Samara Weaving, Asher Keddie, Manny Jacinto and Grace Van Patten.
Kidman serves as an executive producer on the series alongside Per Saari for Blossom Films, Bruna Papandrea, Jodi Matterson and Steve Hutensky for Made Up Stories, Dave E Kelley, Melissa McCarthy, John Henry Butterworth, Samantha Strauss, Jonathan Levine, Molly Allen and Liane Moriarty herself.
Levine doubles as director, with Kelley and Butterworth as co-writers.
The first three episodes of Nine Perfect Strangers launch on Amazon Prime Video on August 20th, 2021, with new episodes then launching weekly thereafter.
