'Unforgotten' has been commissioned for another series.
The crime drama had viewers on the edge of their seats last year when Cassie Stuart (Nicola Walker) walked off into the night at the end of episode six, but fans shouldn't have to wait too much longer to get the answers to the questions they've been itching to find out as ITV has confirmed they've given the green light for a third instalment.
The forthcoming six-part series will focus on yet another intricate historical investigation which will expose a fresh web of secrets as Nicola and Sanjeev Bhaskar reprise their roles as Cassie and DI Sunny Khan, respectively, later this year.
Although another batch of episodes has only just been confirmed, the show's writer Chris Lang previously said he already had another story tucked up his sleeve.
He told the RadioTimes.com: "I'd love to come back for another go, I'd like to do one more series, because I want to square various circles with Cassie and Sunny.
"I don't think it's something that they will wear lightly. I hope the audience sort of feel that that was a very difficult decision to make. You can argue whether it's the right or the wrong one, but it's certainly one that I think you can understand given what those characters had been through. It's a secret that they now have and they will have to carry with them through their job and if we do get a third series obviously one will attempt to explore the ramifications of what making such a profound decision will be."
Meanwhile, Sanjeev recently told BANG Showbiz that he never expected the show to do so well when he first signed on to portray the detective inspector.
He said: "The one thing that was interesting about 'Unforgotten' was that I hadn't really done a prime-time drama series before, so that felt like new territory and it was well-received."
