Gyles Brandreth has "proper conversations" with his neighbour's cat.
The 75-year-old TV star lives in Barnes, southwest London with his wife Michèle Brown - with whom he has Benet, Aphra and Saethryd - and revealed that next door's moggie Nala has taken up residence in his home and claimed that she can "understand" what he says to her.
Speaking on ITV's 'This Morning', he said: "Nala, the neighbour's cat who lives with us, we talk. Properly. Conversations, I promise you. I'm going to have to bring her in to demonstrate this. I say to her 'We are going into the garden now, Nala, do you want to join us?' She follows, out into the garden. I say 'Do you want to go and sit on my mat in the study? I will see you there in a moment.'' She goes down and waits for me. She understands. So some cats actually do understand.
"Cats...they learn their behaviour from their behaviour patterns from the humans they live with. That's all I'm saying!"
The 'Celebrity Gogglebox' star previously described his feline friend as a"priceless treasure" as he told his followers how she had come to live with him
He tweeted: "Nala, the neighbour’s cat who lives with us (by kind permission of our neighbours), makes a happy and unexpected appearance in the Sunday Telegraph today. On the Money pages. She’s a treasure. And priceless. In every sense."
Prior to that, Gyles tweeted that he felt "lucky" that Nala had moved in.
He said: "This is Nala, the most beautiful cat in west London. She’s a Maine coon and belongs next door, but by mutual agreement with our kind neighbours Nala lives with us. Lucky us."
