Mel Giedroyc tries to "pace herself" when hosting BBC's 'Children in Need', but admitted it is "impossible" because there is so much "excitement and adrenaline" on the night.
The comedian, 55, will be hosting the special telethon alongside the likes of Jason Manford, 42, Ade Adepitan MBE, 50, and Lenny Rush, 14, which promises to be filled with fun, laughter and excitement to raise funds for the charity.
When asked about the challenges of hosting the show, Mel said: “You have to pace yourself. Don’t go out of the traps at 200 per cent ... try and back-foot it just a little and let it roll out in a relaxed way. Which is impossible when the whole thing runs on excitement and adrenaline!”
This year, programme will boast a plethora of special content that will dazzle viewers, including a special ‘Doctor Who’ scene starring David Tennant; a ‘MasterChef’ extravaganza with John Torode and Gregg Wallace; and a first-look at Walt Disney Animation Studios’ upcoming movie 'Wish', with a performance from West End star Merryl Ansah in celebration of the company’s 100th anniversary.
With so much on offer, Mel gushed about the programme and revealed why she believes the show has been so popular for more than 40 years.
She explained: “I think it’s a good mix. It doesn’t forget that it’s an entertainment show and it has to be entertaining otherwise people wouldn’t watch it, but it does a nice mix of finding those great stories, those inspiring stories, meeting great people who might not usually have a voice.
"It’s rare that you get to have a good laugh with lots of people you know off the telly, and also know that you’re helping people, so it’s a nice position to be in.”
‘BBC Children in Need’ will air on November 17 at 7pm on BBC One, and will be available to catch up on BBC iPlayer.
