Award-winning Transparent has been given the greenlight for a third season which will become exclusively available for broadcast to members of Amazon Prime next year.

Created by Jill Soloway and starring Jeffrey Tambor, Judith Light, Gaby Hoffmann, Amy Landecker and Jay Duplass, the series is a half hour novelistic show that explores identity, sex, gender, love, family and friendship.

Pfefferman family patriarch Mort goes through a transition in the first series with Tambor in the role, becoming Maura after living a life in the shadows of her real self. Reintroducing herself to her family sees a positive reaction, but it also acts as the catalyst for a whole load of family secrets to start spilling out.

Vice President at Amazon Studios Roy Price said of the news: "Jill is truly a creative force and I'm thrilled that we will be collaborating with her additional projects in the future and on a third season of Transparent.

"The second season is currently starting production, and I know our customers will be delighted to continue the journey with Maura and the Pfefferman family."

Soloway added: "I am so thrilled that I get to share more of the Pfeffermans' story with the world.

"We are all so in love with watching them change and grow. I am blown away by the creative freedom Amazon gives me and I can't wait to reveal where this journey is going to take us."

Amazon Prime members can currently watch season one of Transparent on the Amazon Instant Video app or online at amazon.co.uk/transparent.

The second season of the show will be released exclusively this autumn for Prime members on Amazon Instant Video in the UK, Germany and the US. Additional details such as guest stars are to be announced in the coming months.
