This weekend at New York Comic Con it’s been confirmed that AMC hit zombie apocalypse series The Walking Dead will be crossing over with its prequel sister show, Fear The Walking Dead, despite years of denials of this ever being in the works by everybody working on both shows. Creator Robert Kirkman broke the news, which was then backed up on Twitter on official accounts for both of the shows:

Kirkman told the crowds: “There is one character that is going to go from one show, that I will not name, to another show, that I will not name. This is a huge event in the world of The Walking Dead.”

Ever since the announcement, fans have been musing over exactly which characters will be making the jump from show to show. It could be one of the leading characters from each series, or it could be somebody quite minor, making the leap.

Fans at NYCC were also treated to a brand new clip from The Walking Dead’s upcoming 100th episode (which you can see below), with Kirkman also reiterating that the show’s lead character Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) would indeed die in the future of the series.

Whether we find out anything else about the show as NYCC rolls towards its end remains to be seen, but if fans’ appetites weren’t whetted before the event, they certainly will be now. The Walking Dead may have been around for seven seasons to-date, but it clearly has a lot of surprises ahead and plenty of steam to go.

Fear The Walking Dead season 3 continues October 9 in the US on AMC and Mondays in the UK on AMC (exclusive to BT TV), with The Walking Dead making its return with season 8 on AMC in the US on October 22. The new season of The Walking Dead then comes to the UK on FOX the day after, on October 23.
