Sky Atlantic and CANAL+ revealed last week that a second series of The Tunnel has been commissioned, re-uniting the unlikely alliance of Karl Roebuck and Elise Wasserman, portrayed by Stephen Dillane and Clémence Poésy respectively.

Joining the production team for the second series are Broadchurch director Mike Barker and The Fall's Julian Stevens as producer. Ben Richards is back as lead writer for the co-production from Kudos and Shine France Films.

With the working title 'Debris', the series will see the mysterious crash of a passenger plane into the English Channel at the centre of investigations, with Roebuck and Wasserman taking part in proceedings on behalf of their respective countries.

Thrust into a joint partnership, their alliance is to be tested once more with the emotions of their previous case weighing heavily on them.

Sky Atlantic Director Zai Bennett commented: "Boasting fantastic nuanced performances by Clémence Poésy and Stephen Dillane and a totally gripping story, it is easy to see why the first series of this crime thriller struck a real chord with Sky Atlantic viewers. The Tunnel 2: Debris reunites the acting tour-de-force with world-class writing and production teams, ensuring this new original series will have customers on the edge of their seats once more."

More information including a premiere date is expected to be released later this year.
