Aiming to give an authentic exploration of marriage in the modern world, as well as the legacy of divorce, comes BBC One’s new six-part drama series The Split. Written by BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning writer Abi Morgan, the show stars the likes of Nicola Walker, Stephen Mangan, Fiona Button, Deborah Findlay, Annabel Scholey, Anthony Head, Barry Atsma, Meera Syal, and Stephen Tompkinson. This week, a first look teaser for the series has been released, which you can now check out below:
The Defoe family make up the bulk of the series; a family who are at the heart of the divorce circuit which makes its way throughout the English capital. Walker will play lawyer Hannah, whose marriage with husband Nathan (Mangan) looks set to self-destruct when her former partner Christie (Atsma) returns to her life.
Speaking about the role, Walker said recently (according to Digital Spy): “I’m delighted to be joining the Defoe family and walking in Hannah’s shoes as she picks her way through other people’s marriages and relationships, all the while questioning her own.”
Writer Abi Morgan is renowned for her work on films including Suffragette, The Iron Lady, and Shame, as well as television shows such as River and The Hour.
The Split will premiere on BBC One on Tuesday, April 24 at 9pm.
