This year (2022) is set to be home to some brilliant TV shows, such as Swimming with Sharks and Season 2 of The Flight Attendant. Also joining the fray is a brand new title from BritBox that will debut next month (May, 2022).
The Dry is an upcoming series about addiction, coping, and the family that surrounds you.
When Shiv Sheridan (Roisin Gallagher) returns home to Dublin after spending years in London attending party after party, she attempts to change her lifestyle for the better. She is sober, and intends to keep it that way.
Shiv is full of good intentions and positivity in regard to her sobriety; however, staying with her family will make staying on ‘the dry’ a lot more difficult that she expected.
While Shiv must navigate this new and challenging aspect of her life, so must her family, who each have their own secrets and problems that they would much rather not bring to light.
In addition to Gallagher, The Dry also stars Pom Boyd (Vanity Fair, Frank of Ireland), Siobhán Cullen (Origin, The Limehouse Golem), Moe Dunford (The Dig, Vikings), along with newcomer Adam Richardson, and BAFTA and Academy Award nominee Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones, Belfast).
The trailer for The Dry is rather upbeat and jovial, with the real message and bulk of the show hidden within.
It is clear that the series is intended as a comedy first, but with drops of seriousness and drama throughout. We see Shiv struggle with her addiction, and her family commit a sin or two of their own.
The Dry seems to celebrate the joys and chaos that can come hand-in-hand with family life, in a series where the prime focus is recovery.
All episodes of The Dry will premiere on BritBox from May 5th, 2022.
I really love the trailer for The Dry; even though it is only around a minute long, it packs so much into that time and creates genuine intrigue.
The show seems to understand its prospective audience, and has a number of things to build off. It seems like a humorous yet serious show that will have both heart and comedy.
