Following an unexpected and uplifting song-and-dance number in the latest episode of The Boys Season 3, showrunner Eric Kripke has admitted it would be a “dream” to do a full musical episode in the future.
Speaking with Total Film he said: "I'm a huge fan of classic Hollywood musicals, I love them.
"People always laugh when they find out because the stuff I make is sort of gory, but really, for most filmmakers, like the stuff you make and the stuff you watch are two very different things. And I just love them."
He joked: "Maybe out of this interview, Amazon will read that and let me do it."
Speaking about the potential for a "full-on musical episode, like a full-on song and dance top to bottom," he continued: "I've never quite found the story means to do it, but at the very least an opportunity came up to have one really big number and so I couldn't resist."
Now, with a fourth season given the go-ahead by Amazon, we’ll be seeing a lot more of The Boys on Prime Video. Whether or not Kripke will get to live out his “dream” of a musical episode or not though, remains to be seen.
Those currently up-to-date with The Boys are anxiously anticipating the final three episodes in what could probably be described as the most shocking and chaotic season of the series to-date.
In just the first episode, we had seen an Ant-Man-style Supe enter a man’s nether regions, before sneezing and growing back to full size, causing the unfortunate young gentleman to combust. We’ve also got the infamous ‘Herogasm’ scenes to look forward to in Season 3’s next episode, which are lifted straight from the source material’s comic book pages.
We’ve watched as Butcher and the gang visited Russia, hoping to find a weapon that could kill the otherwise unkillable Homelander and, whilst there, they stumbled upon one of the country’s best-kept secrets; Soldier Boy was still alive and, being kept under lock and key.
Now it appears that Soldier Boy has the ability to remove powers from fellow Supes, he could be the key to bringing Homelander’s reign of terror to an almighty and surely epic conclusion.
The Boys Seasons 1-2 are available to stream fully now on Prime Video, with new episodes of Season 3 dropping every Friday until the season finale, on July 8th, 2022.
