Little and Large

The 78-year-old comedian - who was in the famous double act Little and Large alongside Eddie - often forgets his best friend passed away in 2020, as he always reaches for the phone to give him a call whenever their favourite football team, Manchester City, loses a match.

Speaking on the 'Distinct Nostalgia' podcast, Syd said: “I am like, ‘Oh City got beat, I better phone him up’.”

Eddie - whose real name was Edward McGinnis - died at the age of 78 in April last year, after contracting COVID-19 whilst receiving treatment for heart failure.

He had suffered from kidney and heart problems for a number of years and underwent a heart transplant in 2003.

Syd - whose real name is Cyril Mead - visited Eddie in his last days before the pandemic prevented visitors in the hospital and recalled how his final moments with his comedy partner were spent "stroking his hair".

He shared: “The last time I saw him, I was stroking his hair. He was really ill and then we were not allowed to see him. I used to phone him up every day and I think he liked that.

“We went down to see him when he was very ill and his second heart was failing. He did get Corona but eventually, it was the heart that killed him.”

Syd previously admitted he is still struggling to come to terms with the loss.

He previously said: "It's an emotional rollercoaster at the moment. I miss him greatly. I still can't get it out of my head."
