Suranne Jones says therapy helps her to "deal with demons in my life".
The 42-year-old actress first started seeing a therapist 20 years ago and has praised it for helping her deal with troubling situations, such as when she collapsed during a performance of 'Frozen' in London’s West End and later pulled out of the show.
The play dealt with difficult issues as Suranne played a mother whose daughter is kidnapped, abused and then murdered by a paedophile and Suranne admitted working on shows such as 'Frozen' and her current TV series 'I am Victoria', where she plays a woman battling inner demons, can take their toll.
She told Stella magazine: "Looking after your mental health is everything. It’s like going to the gym, it’s about looking after yourself, recognising changes before what happened to me during Frozen, and what happens to Victoria.
"I am fortunate to have been in therapy a very long time, but now and again the pressure builds up."
Suranne also revealed she took time out from filming 'Gentleman Jack' in order to see a doctor to help her cope with some issues.
She said: "I had a moment filming of 'Gentleman Jack' when I needed to time off and see a doctor, to really deal with demons in my life."
And the actress explained that losing her father to COVID-19 has greatly affected her.
She said: "COVID has affected me on a huge level. My dad was in ICU for three months and we weren’t allowed to see him. We kept getting calls saying he might pass, and then he might rally. It’s difficult to understand how awful COVID is unless it has touched you."
