John Whaite could be set for a stage role after his success on 'Strictly Come Dancing'.
The 'Great British Bake Off Winner' has been competing in the latest series of the BBC favourite with pro dancer partner Johannes Radebe in what has become the first all-male pairing in the show's history, and he is said to have impressed theatre producers with his dancing ability.
A TV source told The Sun newspaper's TV Biz column: “It’s not just his moves on Strictly that have caught the attention of directors, it’s also the charisma and confidence he’s shown as he finds himself in the spotlight. Being in the show’s first same-sex partnership with Johannes Radebe could have been an intimidating prospect, but far from being a shrinking violet he’s been a shining star.
“Plus he’s been posting videos where he’s singing and playing the guitar, making him a ‘triple threat’ in the West End.”
If he could pick a musical to tread the boards, the culinary star would pick 'Rent', the rock musical set in 1980s New York amid the AIDS crisis.
He said: "It’s my favourite musical because it’s about liberation, about not going with the tide, living a bohemian lifestyle and not letting people walk all over you. Ultimately, it’s about love, no matter who or what you are."
It comes just days before John and his professional dance partner Johannes, 34, are set to take on another round of 'Strictly' in the musicals-themed week.
The pair will be dressed as chimney sweeps in homage to the character made famous by Dick van Dyke in 'Mary Poppins' and will perform a Viennese Waltz to the timeless song 'Chim Chim Cher-ee.'
