We’re just over a month away from the premiere of Stranger Things Season 4, and whilst we now know the batch of new episodes are going to be split right down the middle and release as two separate parts, that hasn’t got us any less excited about what’s to come.

Further whetting our appetite, Netflix today dropped a three-minute trailer for the show, which shone a spotlight on the Big Bad who seems to have been causing all of the chaos in the small town of Hawkins, with a thirst for power and ultimate control.

Exactly how this hideous being – which quite closely resembles the Night King from HBO series Game of Thrones – is going to continue pulling the strings, remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure; the normalcy that the youngsters and their loved ones were hoping for after their terrifying few years, isn’t quite within their reach just yet.

When we catch up with our favourite characters, it's been six months since the tragic Battle of Starcourt, which saw Max's brother Billy killed. Struggling in the aftermath, this once unbreakable group of friends have been separated for the first time, making their navigation of high school - and all of the complexities that come with it - harder than ever.

With a new and deadly threat rearing its ugly head, there’s a gruesome mystery tossed at the feet of our heroes which, if solved, may be able to bring the horrors that have fallen over Hawkins to their ultimate conclusion.

Returning cast members include Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Jim Hopper, Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley, Priah Ferguson as Erica Sinclair and, Matthew Modine as Dr. Brenner.

This trailer felt like it was setting up one of the most monumental events in television history. Stranger Things Season 4 has been a long time coming, so The Duffer Brothers look to be pulling out all of the stops to ensure that once it has been unleashed upon the fans, it’s not going to be something they forget.

Seeing all of the young characters so grown up is a little jarring for those of us who have stuck with the series since it first began. There’s no hiding their age, and they’re almost on the cusp of looking completely out of place in high school, so it was probably the right decision by creators to announce that the series would be coming to a close with its fifth season.

Still, that’s some way off. Before then, I for one cannot wait to see what The Duffer Brothers have in-store.
