Stephen Graham’s wife Hannah Walters has joined the cast of ‘Time’.
The 47-year-old actor won’t have to worry about having chemistry with his on-screen spouse in the upcoming BBC One prison drama, because the character will be played by Hannah, who is his wife in real life.
The drama is currently filming in and around Liverpool, and will see Stephen play prison officer Eric McNally, alongside Sean Bean as prisoner Mark Hebden.
Happy Valley’s Siobhan Finneran and Downton Abbey’s Sue Johnston have also joined the cast, and the show has been written by Jimmy McGovern.
Speaking about the show, Stephen said: “It is an absolute honour to be working with Jimmy again, I’m feeling blessed. I’m excited to be working with Lewis as I have heard so many incredible things about him as a director, I can’t wait to get stuck in. Of course, I am made up to be back on set with Sean.”
Sean added: “Getting to be involved in a Jimmy McGovern drama again is a real privilege and it will be great to be reunited with Stephen. Mark Hebden is another of Jimmy’s complex and superbly written characters and I am looking forward to bringing him to life on screen.”
The programme will be a “visceral and high-stakes portrayal of life in the modern British penal system”, and sees Sean’s character Mark serve a four-year prison sentence for killing an innocent man in an accident.
Stephen’s character, meanwhile, is a caring and honest prison officer, who faces an impossible choice between his principles and his love for his family when one of the prison’s most dangerous inmates identifies his weakness.
