Stephen Fry has revealed he was banned from using Twitter whilst filming in Mexico due to fears he'd be kidnapped.
The actor told of how his insurance company told him not to use the social networking site whilst in the region for a new TV project, as they were worried criminals could use it to track him and hold him for ransom.
Speaking on Alan Carr's Chatty Man - airing tonight on Channel 4 - Stephen explains: "I was filming in Mexico, which is a wonderful country, but the insurance company decided I should not tweet for fear of kidnapping and things like that.
"They did not want me to reveal where I was."
He also confessed it was quite daunting to be told what he should and shouldn't do whilst in Mexico, which has one of the highest kidnapping rates in the world, but admitted he didn't witness crime during hsi visit.
"They told me not to use social media or drive at night. There has been appalling violence but I did not sense any of that."
