The biggest ever cash prize in television history is to be given away in new Netflix competition series Squid Game: The Challenge, which is expected to bring the record-breaking show to life along with the games that featured in it – without the death of course.
Not only content with giving away the largest lump sum ever, the show will also feature the biggest cast, with 456 contestants battling it out through a series of inspired challenges, along with a few surprises, putting them to the test in ways they could never have imagined.
“Squid Game took the world by storm with Director Hwang’s captivating story and iconic imagery. We’re grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment,” said Brandon Riegg, Netflix VP of Unscripted and Documentary Series.
“Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest ever cash prize at the end.”
Recruitment for the show is now open at SquidGameCasting.com, with the Front Man looking for English-language speakers from any part of the world for his first round of games.
The 10-episode series is a co-production collaboration between The Circle producers Studio Lambert, and The Garden (24 Hours in A&E), part of ITV Studios. It will be filmed in the UK.
Squid Game still holds the record of Netflix's most popular series of all time, with over 1.65 billion hours viewed in the first 28 days following its September 2021 premiere. A second season has been confirmed, with Netflix teamed up with Director Hwang once more for a whole new round.
