There has been talk surrounding a second season of Squid Game ever since the first dropped on Netflix, but now the streaming service has confirmed that the TV series will indeed be making a return for another mysterious and terrifying outing.

Over the weekend (June 12th, 2022), a creepy and extremely disturbing teaser for Season 2 was released across Netflix social media accounts, along with a message from the show’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk.

He teased the return of Gi-hun and the Front Man, as well as “the man in the suit with ddakji” and, animatronic Young-hee’s “boyfriend”, Cheol-su.

Chatting about the process going into bringing fans of the show a second season, executive producer Kim Ji-yeon said: "We are working on the script right now and making the form of the story. But there's definitely a lot of pressure on how to make [it] even better. I know that a lot of the different fans and audiences have enjoyed the series very much, but really we're focusing on how to make it even more joyful to the global audience."

Audiences were enchanted by the first season of Squid Game, which was 12 years in the making. It told the story of a down-and-out Gi-hun, who agreed to take part in a deadly series of challenges based on children’s’ street games, in a bid to win a life-changing amount of money.

The first of those games was ‘Red Light, Green Light’, which saw a huge animatronic doll shoot dead anybody it saw moving when its head turned towards those trying to reach the finishing line.

Just 12 days after its release, Squid Game became the most watched show or film to ever hit Netflix. It saw over 1.6 billion hours viewed and continues to grow in popularity, as we lurch towards the second season.

Though there's no release date just yet for Season 2, we're expecting to see Squid Game pop back up on Netflix within the next 12-24 months.
