'Spitting Image' has announced a double header to mark the upcoming US presidential election.
The popular satirical puppet show has confirmed plans for two special episodes focused on the key moments around the upcoming election, which will see Donald Trump go up against Joe Biden for the presidency.
Both eps will launch exclusively on streaming service BritBox on October 31, and viewers will be able to watch the first bonus episode that evening in a special one-off broadcast on ITV, ahead of the election on November 3.
Reemah Sakaan, Group Director at ITV SVOD and Chief Creative & Brand Officer for BritBox, said: “We've been excited about the timing of the US election for this series of 'Spitting Image' for months ... and it certainly doesn't seem to be letting us down in terms of material for satire, so we commissioned a bonus episode that we are excited to share with both ITV and BritBox audiences.”
Kevin Lygo - BritBox Originals Creative Chief and ITV’s Director of TV - added: “This is a great chance to celebrate Spitting Image’s noisy return after 18 years and give ITV viewers a taste of the full series, available on BritBox.”
The programme's co-creator Roger Law joked it was "very appropriate" for the sketch show - which originally aired on ITV before moving to BritBox for the relaunch - to be returning to the channel on the spookiest night of the year.
He added: “'Spitting Image' returns to ITV for a one-off special on the 31 October at 10pm. Halloween. How very appropriate.”
'Spitting Image' is BritBox‘s debut original and available with a free trial to all new subscribers at the streaming service's website.
