Sir David Jason led Roger Lloyd-Pack tributes today, after hearing news of the actor's passing.
The 73-year-old actor has praised his 'Only Fools and Horses' co-star, who died last night aged 69 from pancreatic cancer, for being a "pleasure to work with" and admitted he was "very intelligent", despite his exquisite portrayal of simple roadsweeper Trigger in the BBC sitcom.
He said in a statement: "I was very saddened to hear of Roger's passing. He was a very quiet, kind and unassuming actor who was a pleasure to work with.
"Although he played the simple soul of Trigger in 'Only Fools And Horses', he was a very intelligent man and a very fine actor capable of many roles. I shall remember him with fondness and for all the good times we had together."
John Challis, who played Boycie in 'Only Fools and Horses', admitted he felt "distressed" upon finding out about Roger's death.
He said: "I spoke to Roger two days ago. It is very sad and very distressing.
"My thoughts are with his family. He was a remarkable man and he'll be missed. Roger is irreplaceable. It's a very sorry day."
Roger got his break in 1981 when he was given the role of gullible Trigger - who caused much hilarity by often referring to Nicholas Lyndhurst's alter-ego Rodney Trotter as "Dave" - and was involved in one of the most famous scenes in the show's history when David's character Del Boy fell through a pub bar.
While he had a hugely successful TV career playing comical characters, which also saw him play foul-mouthed farmer Owen Newitt in BBC sitcom 'The Vicar of Dibley', Roger also had serious roles in movies such as 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire', as Barty Crouch, and he played Mendel in 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy'.
He portrayed Tom Finnan in BBC sitcom 'The Old Guys' opposite Clive Swift and Jane Asher from 2009 to 2010, and made appearances in 'Doctor Who', 'New Tricks', 'Poirot' and 'The Catherine Tate Show' during his highly successful career.
Roger was also a big football fan and keen supporter of Premiership side Tottenham Hotspur, and the club paid their respects to the late actor.
A message on their official Twitter account read: "We're saddened to learn of the death of Spurs fan Roger Lloyd-Pack. The Club extends our condolences to his friends and family."
