The 'Derry Girls' star is set to star in new travel show 'Exploring Northern Ireland with Siobhan McSweeney' and she admits to being “nervous” about online feedback, because of the "subject matter" and because it will be her real self on screen with “no role to hide behind”.

And she says the comments about her physical appearance are sometimes so cruel that she has taken herself to bed to escape the pain.

In an interview with the Metro newspaper, the 41-year-old actress said: “I’m nervous about the feedback for this travel show because of the subject matter, Northern Ireland. I’m coming from a certain perspective and I have no role to hide behind so if people don't like the show, they don’t like me. I could say, ‘It’s all water off a duck’s back. Trolls don't affect me.”

"Of course they affect me. They affect me awfully. I take to the bed.

"It’s really upsetting to have your physical appearance commented on.

“I’m aware that people won’t like that a woman of my shape, my looks, my accent and my opinions is in a wetsuit - and they will have no problem telling me that.”

One her most terrifying moments while filming her new series came when she climbed a 248ft crane in a Belfast shipyard and Siobhan - who plays Sister Michael in sitcom 'Derry Girls' - was pleased to hear she managed to do something 'The Grand Tour' star Jeremy Clarkson was “too wuss” to do.

Speaking of going up Samson - which is stationed in Harland & Wolf shipyard in the Northern Irish capital - she said: "Once I’d climbed in I suddenly started sweating. My googles steamed up. You don’t believe that ladders will hold you, especially if you are a big woman.

“Apparently Jeremy Clarkson was too wuss to go for it. Big Macho MacD***face couldn’t get into the pod yet Girly MacFlirly did, so ha!"

'Exploring Northern Ireland with Siobhan McSweeney' begins this Thursday (12.08.21) on More 4.
