The music mogul finds the 'R.I.P.' singer "adorable" and thinks the fact she has an "ego" makes her a much more fascinating person.

He said: "Rita is a diva, but adorable. I really do like her. I like people who have an ego and want to do well, it makes them more interesting.

"There is a side to Rita that I don't think people have seen yet, which is funny."

And Cheryl Fernandez-Versini thinks Rita and fellow newcomer Nick Grimshaw have made the show a lot more fun.

She told heat magazine: "It's a Saturday night entertainment show. Ultimately, the viewers want it to be fun. I'm enjoying the new panel."

The 'Only Human' singer has grown particularly close to Nick.

A source said: "Cheryl became obsessed with Nick after a week or so of filming - she started bombarding him with texts and calls. They have so much fun together. She never had fun with Louis [Walsh]."

Meanwhile, although the judges don't yet know who they will mentor on the live shows, Rita already knows who she wants to be responsible for.

She said: "I one hundred per cent know which category I want. I'm a girls' girl. But whoever I get, I will try to help them."
