Simon Cowell is more excited about 'I Can't Sing' than any other project he's been involved in.

The music mogul can't wait for the start of the 'X Factor' musical - which has been written by Harry Hill - next year, and admits he agreed to it because he found it funny that the storyline "takes the p**s" out of him.

He said: "We've had people approach us before about musicals but they've always taken it really seriously and I said I couldn't do it.

"But when they played me the premise and one of the songs it really made me laugh. It takes the p**s out of me, that's sort of the premise.

"I'm probably more excited about this opening than anything else I've ever done.

"It captures what it's like to be on the show and what the contestants' back stories mean."

Simon is currently expecting his first child with New York socialite Lauren Silverman and joked he had planned it all along for the little one to attend the premiere of the musical early next year.

Speaking on ITV's 'Daybreak', he quipped: "The baby will be at the premiere, I've timed it."

But Simon's baby could be welcomed into the world in a slightly unconventional way as former doctor Harry joked the 53-year-old star has asked him to deliver his first child.

He quipped: "I used to be a doctor and Simon asked me if I would deliver it and I said of course."
