'Emmerdale' star Sian Reese-Williams is glad her character Gennie Sharma was killed off.
The actress has played the popular factory worker for five years, but is pleased her alter-ego's life came to a tragic end last night (25.07.13) after becoming the latest victim of serial killer Cameron Murray (Dominic Power), because it means she can't ever look back and return to the ITV soap.
Speaking to Digital Spy, she said: "When they suggested it to me at first, it made it scarier, but I never changed my mind. I knew that it was the right thing for me ... I'm so glad that it has happened this way because for me, it propels you forward and you can't look back."
Viewers saw Gennie determined to prove to her half-sister Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) that her fiancé Cameron Murray is having an affair with Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb), so she hid out at Debbie's house in the hope of recording the evidence on a Dictaphone.
But when the Dales killer confessed more than she ever expected to hear, petrified Gennie jumped into her car and sped off with an angry Cameron in pursuit. He caught up with her and drove her off the road, sending her vehicle plummeting down a ravine.
However, the near-fatal crash didn't kill off the character as in a shock twist Cameron suffocated her in a bid to prevent his sordid secret from being leaked - making her his third victim in a year - but little did he know the whole conversation was being recorded on her Dictaphone.
Rik Makarem - who plays Gennie's husband Nikhil Sharma - previously announced he was bowing out of the show, but he will remain on screen for a few more weeks and viewers will see his character go through a turmoil of emotions as he discovers the tragic news that his wife his dead.
