Though she’s known to many as a pop singer, Selena Gomez did actually serve as a producer on hugely popular Netflix original series 13 Reasons Why, based on the young adult novel of the same name by Jay Asher. Picking up some great viewership, the show’s now had a second season ordered, and Gomez has teased what she describes as “exciting” and “great”.
Speaking to Seattle radio station Movin 92.5, Gomez said: “I’m so excited for season 2. I think it’s going to be so exciting because I didn’t expect the first to be as loud. I didn’t expect it to have the reaction that it did. It was amazing, and it was complicated, and there was a lot of stuff that came with it, and I understood what that meant.
“I think for season 2, we elaborate more on some of those questions and the stories and the resolution, if you will, of what some of these kids have gone through and are going through. So it’s exciting.”
She added of her time in the writer’s room for the second season: “They’re working so hard and it’s going to come together. I was sitting there at the table, like, ‘Wait, what happened?!’ Almost freaking out. I’m so excited. It’s going to be great.”
Whilst no details about a plot for the second season have yet been given, we do know we’ll be following the same characters we met in the first season, despite showrunners at one point considering going down the anthology series route.
What we do know is that a new set of cassette tapes WON’T be the show’s driving force, but another medium of communication will step into spotlight.
13 Reasons Why season 1 is available now on Netflix.
