Netflix have today revealed the first official trailer, key art and images for their upcoming original series, The Crown.

Reuniting writer Peter Morgan with director Stephen Daldry and producer Andy Harries, The Crown is based on award-winning play The Audience, and tells the inside story of Queen Elizabeth II's early reign.

Taking an in-depth look into the romances, personal intrigues and political rivalries behind some of the biggest and greatest events that shaped the second half of the 20th Century, the show is split into 10 episodes and features some brilliant talent.

Claire Foy stars as Queen Elizabeth II, whilst Matt Smith plays Prince Phillip and John Lithgow steps into the role of Sir Winston Churchill. Victoria Hamilton stars as the Queen Mother, Jared Harris was cast as King George VI, Vanessa Kirby is Princess Margaret and Dame Eileen Atkins is Queen Mary.

The official synopsis released by Netflix reads: " The Crown focuses on Queen Elizabeth II as a 25-year-old newlywed faced with the daunting prospect of leading the world's most famous monarchy while forging a relationship with legendary Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill. The British Empire is in decline, the political world is in disarray, and a young woman takes the throne....a new era is dawning. Peter Morgan's masterfully researched scripts reveal the Queen's private journey behind the public facade with daring frankness. Prepare to be welcomed into the coveted world of power and privilege and behind locked doors in Westminster and Buckingham Palace....the leaders of an empire await."

The Crown launches on Friday, November 4 exclusively to Netflix in all territories where the streaming service is available.
