Sean Gleeson is the new series producer on 'Holby City'.
The former 'EastEnders' and 'Doctors' actor is moving across from sister medical show 'Casualty', where he has worked as director and producer, to join 'Holby' as Jane Wallbank's replacement, and he is looking forward to the challenge.
Sean said: "This is obviously an exciting opportunity.
"I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in and working with the crew, cast and 'Holby' family on consolidating and reinvigorating this firm favourite for an even wider audience."
Kate Oates, head of continuing drama at BBC Studios, admitted Sean has a "unique and holistic approach" to the role thanks to his previous acting and directing experience.
She said: "We are delighted to welcome Seán Gleeson as series producer of 'Holby City'.
"A director and actor, as well as a producer, Seán has a unique and holistic approach to creativity and storytelling, that makes him a great company leader, and an exceptional dramatist."
Sean is known for portraying Conor Flaherty - the nephew of Pauline Fowler (Wendy Richard) - in 'EastEnders' from 1997 to 1999.
The character worked as a mechanic for Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) and a loan shark for Nadia Sawalha's character Annie Palmer.
He later fled to Scotland to look for Ruth Aitken (Caroline Paterson), the ex-wife of Conor's cousin Mark Fowler (Todd Carty), after they had an affair.
Sean also played Ronnie Woodson in 'Doctors' from 2003 to 2009.
He is married to his former 'Doctors' co-star Stirling Gallacher, who recently played Paula Martin in 'Coronation Street'.
