The next series of 'SAS: Who Dares Wins' is in doubt because Channel 4 bosses are struggling to find a replacement for Ant Middleton.
The outspoken adventurer was axed from the hit show earlier this year, but the broadcaster is still trying to identify his replacement and find a new location for the programme.
A source said: "Bosses really wanted this first series without Ant to go with a bang with an amazing new location, like an African desert.
"They’re struggling to replace Ant. They can’t bring in a complete novice."
Channel 4 bosses had previously looked to the US for Ant's replacement.
However, COVID travel restrictions have made that plan difficult to execute.
The insider told The Sun newspaper: "It’s got to be someone who has that star appeal of Ant.
"That’s why picking one from the American version would have given the series a much-needed lift but COVID is hampering all of that too.
"Everyone wants answers but emails are being ignored and it’s frustrating everyone on the show."
Meanwhile, Ant recently insisted he will never be a "yes man".
The adventurer has been retained on the Australian version of the show and he posted a defiant message on social media.
He wrote on Instagram: "I will always fight for authenticity and against any political agenda forced into my work! I will continue to fight it with a readied sword whilst never being afraid to lead the charge! Unfortunately I fought this battle alone and you can clearly see now that I was pushed before I jumped... I am not and never will be a YES man so if you want real, then you know where to come! (sic)"
Ant left the Channel 4 show in abrupt fashion earlier this year, amid concerns over his "personal conduct".
A spokesperson for the broadcaster subsequently explained: "Ant Middleton will not be taking part in future series of 'SAS: Who Dares Wins'.
"Following a number of discussions Channel 4 and Minnow Films have had with him in relation to his personal conduct it has become clear that our views and values are not aligned and we will not be working with him again."
