Sarah Jayne Dunn says her OnlyFans content is "no different" to the photos she's done for 'Hollyoaks' calendars over the years.

The 40-year-old star has departed the Channel 4 soap amid a dispute over her account on the adult subscription website, but the actress insists she isn't putting anything X-rated on her page, and is actually "protecting" the younger audience from seeing such images due to the site's paywall.

She said: "The site itself, you have to be over 18 to access, but my specific content is no different to the content I've put on Instagram, that I've done for men's magazines, for calendars, all of my career.

"So actually, by putting it on a platform where you have to be over 18 to get on there, it's actually protecting it from the younger audience.

"It's taking it out of the public view and it's putting it behind a paywall, where you have to be a certain age to view it.

"So anyone that didn't want to see pictures of me in swimwear, or the nice photoshoots I've done all my life and that I enjoy doing ..."

Sarah - who has played Mandy Richardson in the Channel 4 soap on and off since 1996 - admitted she wanted to star on the soap and still have an OnlyFans account.

When asked why she decided to "stay with OnlyFans and walk away from 'Hollyoaks'", she told 'Good Morning Britain': "Well, that wasn't really the decision I made.

"The idea was to launch OnlyFans and take back some control over my images. What I create, where I put them.

"And put them onto the platform."

But 'Hollyoaks' bosses thought otherwise.

A Channel 4 spokesperson explained this week: "'Hollyoaks' is a youth-facing drama with many young viewers, who follow our cast very closely, both in the soap and outside of it.

"We take our responsibility to our young audience very seriously and therefore the show does not allow any 'Hollyoaks' cast members to be active on certain 18+ websites.

"We had hoped we could reach a resolution with Sarah that would allow her to remain in her role as Mandy, but we respect her choice to continue to produce content on OnlyFans.

"In the past four years since her return to the show, her legacy character has been an integral part of some our most important storylines and we will be very sad to see her go."
