Former ‘EastEnders’ star Samantha Womack is “blessed” to be performing again after her breast cancer diagnosis.
The 50-year-old actress revealed in August she was battling the disease and has since endured a “rough couple of months”, but she is playing the White Witch in a London theatre production of the ‘The Lion, The White and The Wardrobe’.
For her milestone 50th birthday, and after finishing her chemo, Samantha told The Sun newspaper: "I'm back at work at the Gillian Lynne Theatre.
"It's been a rough couple of months but I am blessed to be back."
Samantha - who played Ronnie Mitchell on the BBC One soap between 2007 and 2017 - was wished a happy birthday by her ex co-star Rita Simons, who played her sister Roxy Mitchell in the soap.
Underneath a photo of the pair of them, the 45-year-old actress wrote on Instagram on Wednesday (02.11.22): "Happy birthday to the other half of me. @samzjanus love you and so proud of you #PrincessWarrior (sic)"
Glynis Barber - who played Ronnie and Roxy’s mother Glenda Mitchell - added her many happy returns, writing "my babies are all grown up. Happy birthday” in the comment section.
Ex ‘Geordie Shore’ star Vicky Pattison offered her well wishes, commenting: “Aww this [heart emoji] Happy birthday Sam.”
Sam shared the news of her cancer diagnosis following the passing of the ‘Grease’ icon Olivia Newton-John - who died 30 years after being diagnosed with breast cancer age 73 - this summer.
In her tribute to the actress, Sam captioned a snap of the pair of them: “This was the most magical of evenings.
“Olivia and Chloe had come to see Grease in London and we had dinner together afterwards. I was so excited and in awe, she was my childhood.”
“I now start my own battle with this disease and am left feeling deeply moved. #OliviaNewtonJohn.”
