The 50-year-old actress couldn't touch her toes because she was too sore because of the "awful" pain, which is caused by an irritated nerve.

She wrote on Twitter: "Sciatica down the back of my right thigh it’s awful!! Can’t even touch my toes it’s so painful. Hopefully after some stretches and yoga it will go!! (sic)"

The 'Emmerdale' star - who plays Bernice Blackstock in the ITV soap - revealed she was going to try a yoga move called pigeon to try to relieve her pain.

A fan suggested the move on social media, but another of Sam's followers said she wouldn't be able to take up the position because she didn't have a table.

However, Sam replied: "You can do it on the floor. It’s a yoga move called pigeon x (sic)"

The soap star recently returned to Twitter following a short break to escape some "nasty people", after she was left "astounded" how horrible some social media users can be.

She recently tweeted: "Having a wee break from the vitriolic place Twitter is today! It astounds me how nasty people are. See you in a while."

It came after she questioned whether people were "mad" when she experienced a lack of social distancing and mask wearing during a day out in Blackpool in July.

She wrote: "Today we hit Blackpool for the youngests upcoming birthday. God it was mental. And no social distancing, not many masks being worn. Are people mad???? No wonder cases are rising. (sic)"

However, a number of Twitter users didn't agree with her comments.

One wrote: "I was on holiday in Blackpool all week and everybody was following the rules including the hotel we was in (sic)"

Another posted: "I live in Blackpool and this is complete BS ! Blackpool is following ALL the rules and has done throughout! (sic)"

Sam pointed out she was not criticising the seaside resort itself, but merely some of the people visiting.

She replied: "Blackpool might be following the rules but the people visiting clearly aren’t."

But the Twitter user hit back: "Again RUBBISH - I walked the full length if the prom south to north yesterday - everyone was doing the right thing! People need to get back to living as thus covid BS has gone on long enough, and they are doing mostly responsibly! (sic)"

Sam then wrote: "You are entitled to your opinion as I am entitled to mine. (sic)"
