The 58-year-old actress - who has played soap stalwart Sally Metcalfe since 1986 - is ready to test herself on in the rink next year and admits she's decided to take on the challenge before she is too old to slip on some skates.

Revealing her participation on ITV's 'Lorraine', Sally said: "This is a massive challenge. It really, really is. I’m not getting any younger, I’ve just got to take every opportunity I get so that when I’m old I can say you know what? I gave it a go.

"I'm 58 now, if I don't do it this year then I'll never do it ... I'm doing this for myself, to give me a bit of confidence.

“Now everyone knows I’m doing it I can’t back out can I?! And I’m so scared!”

Sally insists she has no skating background other than taking her three children, 'Bridgerton' star Phoebe, Samuel and Hattie, to the local ice rink.

And the actress' skating was so bad that she needed assistance to keep her balance.

When asked if she had any skating experience, she said: "No never! I went with Hattie when she was little and I had a penguin and then thought this is too hard so I’ll go and get a coffee!”

Sally joins a long list of 'Corrie' cast members to take part in 'Dancing On Ice' following in the footsteps of Brooke Vincent - who plays her on-screen daughter Sophie Webster - Samia Longchambon, Jane Danson and Antony Cotton.

Sally has set up a WhatsApp group chat with them all to ask for tips.

She revealed: "I know I shouldn't have done this but on Friday I set up a little WhatsApp group with all the 'Corrie' ice skaters and I told them because I didn't want them to find out through the press, I wanted to tell them myself.

"Anyone who's done 'Dancing On Ice' who can give me any advice, I'll just soak it up because I really need it."
