The 'Coronation Street' legend - who has played Sally Metcalfe in the ITV soap since 1986 - is to swap the cobbles for the ice next year, and the 58-year-old star is said to have been putting the hours in at the rink.

A TV insider told The Sun newspaper: "ITV have been keen to get Sally on the ice for a number of years and she has tried out in the past, but they haven’t been able to make it work.

"She’s finally ready to do it now though and is already taking it very seriously and has been hitting the ice rink most Sundays.

"Sally is one of Corrie’s best loved stars, her daughter Phoebe is also now a household name so the timing couldn’t be better."

Sally's daughter Phoebe Dynevor is best known for playing Daphne Bridgerton in Netflix hit 'Bridgerton'.

A spokesperson for 'Dancing On Ice' said: "We won't be commenting on speculation and will be announcing our line up in due course."

Should Sally be confirmed for the show, she will follow in the footsteps of several 'Corrie' stars past and present, including Faye Brookes, Samia Longchambon and Lisa George.

Faye - who previously played Kate Connor in the soap - finished runner-up on this year's series, which was won by Capital FM presenter Sonny Jay.

Lisa (Beth Sutherland) took part in the 12th series in 2020, and she finished fifth.

Her series was won by former 'EastEnders' star Joe Swash.

What's more, Samia (Maria Connor) lost out to Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle in 2013's eighth series.

But she did gain a husband from the show, as she ended up marrying her pro skating partner Sylvain Longchambon in 2016, and the couple share six-year-old son Yves.
