Sally Carman used every "broken-hearted" feeling she's ever had to play out her 'Coronation Street' character Abi Franklin's anguish following her son's death.

The 40-year-old actress' alter-ego Abi was left devastated last week when Seb (Harry Visinoni) tragically died of his injuries after he and his girlfriend Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) were brutally attacked by Corey Brent (Maximus Evans) and his gang due to her alternative identity - and Sally poured real-life feelings into her character's devastation.

She said: "I guess what I do in those in use everything that has ever broken my heart, regardless of what that is.

"Hopefully you can see there's genuine feeling there that is based on truth, and not just acting.

"I did that to the best of my ability - that's all you can do."

The former 'Shameless' star was worried about acting out the emotional scenes while adhering to social distancing guidelines, for which she had to perform a monologue scene to a "piece of gaffer tape on a pillow", which took Seb's place as he lay dying on a hospital bed.

When asked if it was tricky filming such scenes without having physical contact, she added to Inside Soap magazine: "I was worried about that, as there were scenes where Abi was supposedly stroking Seb's face and holding his hand.

"You'd want to kiss him and all of those things, and we just couldn't do it.

"I actually did a monologue scene to a piece of gaffer tape on a pillow, though it really didn't matter. I think it worked."

Harry revealed earlier this week that it was his real-life girlfriend Ellie Isaacs' hand which was seen stroking Seb's face in the emotional hospital scenes, as she stood in for Sally to enable the soap to get around social distancing regulations.

He said: "They asked me to bring in my girlfriend to play Abi's hand.

"So in the scenes that aired on Friday it was my girlfriend's hand. Very funny.

"It was really nice, because she got to see what it is I do before I left and she features in my last scene ever."
