The 32-year-old presenter has been in contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19, and while Rylan himself has since had a negative test result, he still needs to self-isolate.

In a statement on his Twitter account, he wrote: "I found out this week that someone I have been in recent contact with outside of work has tested positive for coronavirus.

"I am therefore now following the government guidelines and having to self isolate. I have sought a COVID test and thankfully that has returned a negative result.

"That does mean I will miss the next 2 weeks of Strictly It Takes Two and my BBC Radio 2 Saturday show.

"I look forward to being back soon and wish all the couples good luck for this weekend."

Shortly after his initial statement, Rylan told his Twitter following that he "paid privately" for his own test.

He explained: "I'd just like to add seeing some of your comments, I paid privately to have a test to make sure there was no immediate risk to my work bubbles.

The current series of 'Strictly Come Dancing' has been very different for viewers, with restrictions in place due to the pandemic.

Although the celebrities had been allowed to have guests, the BBC have now stopped people from mixing due to the second lockdown, and the show is taking place without a studio audience.

The series is also set for an epic finale this year, with five couples battling it out to land the Glitterball Trophy.

Show bosses opted for a bumper final week instead of double evictions, with the series already shortened due to the coronavirus pandemic.
