Ryan Gosling is reportedly being lined up for a 'Doctor Who' role.
The 42-year-old actor is known to be a big fan of the BBC sci-fi series and while it is "not clear" what sort of part he could have just yet, an insider has explained that writers are trying to "tailor" a guest character for him to play if he can fit it into his busy schedule.
A TV insider told The Sun newspaper: "This would be a huge coup for the show, but also a real honour for Ryan who is something of a Whovian. It’s not clear yet what role he’d have, but the writers would tailor a character for him to play, if he could find the time in his packed schedule."
Ryan starred alongside 'Sex Education' actor Ncuti Gatwa - who is to take on the title role of The Doctor in the next series - in Greta Gerwig's box office smash hit 'Barbie' and he explained his surprise at learning that the Hollywood superstar was a big fan of the series.
He said: "I remember Ryan Gosling bounding up to my trailer like, ‘Doctor Who is the coolest show in the world man! I’m the biggest fan.’ And I was like, ‘What the hell?’ This show has incredible reach."
In 2022, Ryan was spotted wearing an unofficial 'Doctor Who' t-shirt bearing Ncuti's face and the snap prompted a public response showrunner Russell T Davies, who joked that he would be suing him over the "illegal" piece of merchandise.
He wrote on Instagram: "This is, genuinely, Ryan Gosling wearing a t-shirt of Ncuti Gatwa as Doctor Who We’re suing him, of course. Illegal merch #rulesarerules"
