The 'This Morning' presenter may have flashed the flesh in her skimpy crystal-embellished costumes on 'Strictly Come Dancing' last month, but she has admitted going through the change saw pile on the pounds and shift from a size 12 to a size 14.

She told Woman and Home: "I was a size 12 my whole adult life until I had Jack - and even then I went back to a 12 after probably a year - and now I'm a 14, a proper 14.

"One week I think, 'I'm going to do my steps and not drink' and I might lose a couple of pounds, but then it goes back on again.

"I used to hear my mum and her friends talking about 'thickening out.' I never really knew what they meant; now I do! I look at myself and think, 'I've got no waist any more'."

The 57-year-old star decided to sign up to the ballroom and latin show earlier this year for the "more mature woman, possibly in the menopause".

She said at the time: "I wouldn't say it's given me a new lease of life because I felt OK anyway. But I'm a woman in the menopause and had got to the stage where I was feeling very tired, very exhausted, emotional sometimes, because that's what the menopause does to you. Before 'Strictly...' I decided I needed to get hormones, to go and look at this now because I was trying to deal with it."

Meanwhile, Ruth's husband Eamonn thinks his spouse has become a "new woman" since she left the BBC show.

He said: "Strictly's been wonderful for Ruth. She was having a hard time from the menopause , mentally and physically. 'Strictly' has given her a new direction in life. It has reinvigorated her, re-energized her and reinvented her. She knows she has been blessed and been given the chance to do something extraordinary other women her age don't get to do. She is very grateful for it and she deserves it. When I met her she didn't believe in herself and didn't have confidence. I think this is her moment."
