Russell Howard finds it surprising that "comedians are being cancelled but murderers are being commissioned" in the entertainment industry nowadays.
The 41-year-old comedian admits cancel culture is "fascinating", and while he isn't worried about disappearing himself, he is still amazed by the level of scrutiny that stand-up stars now face.
Asked if he worries about cancel culture, Russell told Metro newspaper: "Not really. I just find it fascinating that comedians are under scrutiny. Comedians are reviewed like presidents, and presidents are getting away with being comedians.
"I find the fact that true crime is massively popular very funny ... so comedians are being cancelled but murderers are being commissioned?
"The great thing about stand-up is you can say whatever you want. I don't really think there's this big battle taking place between the 'woke' and the traditional."
Russell is visiting 24 countries on his world tour, and he admits that it's been a logistical nightmare to organise amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The stand-up star said: "What option have you got? OK, Brexit presents complications for Europe, and COVID presents complications for the world, but luckily I've got an amazing tour manager and manager and it's all worth it.
"Two weeks in a hotel is tough but when you're out you realise how lucky you are. The shows I'm about to do at the Hammersmith Apollo are super-exciting - they'll be full capacity."
Russell also revealed that he'll be performing in a few countries for the first time in his career.
He said: "I'm performing in Spain for the first time, and Greece and Austria ... it makes your life and comedic tapestry a bit richer.
"I always love that street-level knowledge so you can move beyond the stereotypes. Like in Denmark they're mad on porridge. These hip young people eat in porridge cafes from noon til night.
"You also get young couples out on dates and I find it hilarious that they're just slurping porridge - it's the least sexy meal you could have."
