Robert Rinder is said to be among the contenders to replace Piers Morgan on 'Good Morning Britain'.
The 55-year-old TV presenter surprisingly quit the ITV show on Tuesday evening (09.03.21) after airing his controversial views on the Duchess of Sussex's tell-all Oprah Winfrey interview, and the 'Judge Rinder' host is thought to be one of the favourites to take on the presenting role alongside his good friend Susanna Reid.
An insider told The Sun newspaper: "The dynamic between the two presenters would be instant because they have been good friends for years - even going on holiday together.
"Though he is often associated with light-entertainment shows, Rob is a no-nonsense lawyer who has the intellectual gravity to tackle any subject."
Rob and Susanna are known to be close pals and appeared on Channel 4’s 'Celebrity Gogglebox' last year, giving their opinions about the week's TV shows.
The 42-year-old star has also been helping out 'GMB' presenter Kate Garraway, after her husband Derek Draper was struck down with coronavirus last year, and he remains in hospital dealing with the after-effects.
In July last year, Kate revealed Robert had been going food shopping for her and her kids Darcey, 15, and Billy, 11.
She said: "Rob has been fantastic. I know him but I only knew him as much as everybody knows him as Judge Rinder.
"He text and said, 'I live really near to you, what can I do?' I thought, 'Oh nothing,' because it was crazy. But then Darcey was making a photo wall and we didn’t have any Blu Tack, so I said, 'What about Blu Tack?'
"He was like, 'Ok.' We now have a system, I’ll say to him, 'Can we have some butter and milk,' and he’ll send back a rainbow and it’s on its way."
As for Piers, his next destination could be at Fox News.
A spokesman for the US news channel said: "We are always interested in compelling talent."
What's more, Andrew Neil is keen to hire Piers for his upcoming news channel GB News.
He said: "We're about to launch GB News. It'll be a different kind of news channel and I think Piers would be a huge asset for that kind of news channel."
But Andrew would want Piers for a different role.
He said: "I wouldn't want to transfer what he was doing for 'Good Morning Britain' straight to GB News - I'd want to do something different with him at a different time of day."
