'Emmerdale' will be rocked by a hit-and-run scandal.
The ITV soap opera's dramatic upcoming storyline sees Robbie Lawson (Jamie Shelton) and Adam Barton (Adam Thomas) mow down Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton) after a boozy afternoon at the pub, leaving her life hanging in the balance as the panic-stricken pair make a speedy exit.
Jamie Shelton, who plays bad boy Robbie, explained to InsideSoap magazine: "The boys have been in the pub all afternoon downing shots. Robbie is driving the car really fast, so Adam insists on taking over. Unfortunately, that's when they hit Kerry, so Adam's firmly in the frame at the moment.
"They're very shaken up by what's happened. Adam's panicking and wants to get out to see who they've hit - they don't know it's Kerry. Robbie is quite insistent at this point, though - all he wants to do is get out of there immediately."
However, the next morning guilt-ridden Adam awakes to discover his pal has fled to Manchester, leaving him to deal with the aftermath of the accident alone.
Jamie said: "Robbie's just been in court, and needs to stay out of trouble. He doesn't care how this will affect Adam, he's looking out for himself.
"This could have been an opportunity for them to stick together. It's a shame, because Robbie liked having Adam as his new pal."
As Kerry's condition worsens in hospital, Adam hides the blood-spattered car in Cain Dingle's garage, only for his mum Moira (Natalie J. Robb) to discover it and question her boyfriend Cain (Jeff Hordley) because of his troubled past.
