If fans of The CW series Riverdale thought the deaths in season 1 were over following Jason Blossom’s murder, they’re in for a rude awakening, as executive producer and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa broke some interesting news during a recent press event.
EW report that Aguirre-Sacasa was asked about the rumours surrounding a second major death, to which he replied: “Yes, there is truth to that rumour. If the rumoured death happens, it would go to set up season 2.”
He added of the upcoming season 1 finale: “It has all the different elements that are great about the show combined into one, meaning there’s music in it, there’s romance, there’s suspense and horror. It’s kind of like the ultimate Riverdale episode.”
Now of course will come the speculation by fans as to exactly who’ll be meeting their end before this season’s over. Everybody is plausible considering the amount of trouble the youngsters (and adults!) of Riverdale manage to get themselves into, but could we really be saying goodbye to one of the main group, or will it be a parent that ends up on a mortuary slab this time round?
Riverdale’s second season has already been confirmed, and though this upcoming death is something that Aguirre-Sacasa has said will set up the events of that season, the showrunner previously confirmed that genres will be twisted, explaining “if season 1 is a murder mystery, it won’t necessarily be another murder mystery.”
Exactly what that means is anybody’s guess!
Riverdale continues Thursday, April 13 on The CW in the US and comes to Netflix on Fridays in the UK.
