Based on the decades-worth of Archie Comics that have come to fans over the years, Riverdale is the new CW series that brings a whole new slew of teenage characters to fans, all with their own troubles, issues and exciting adventures to follow.
One of those is Jughead; a mysterious character who comes from a broken family and who spends much of his time investigating and writing about the people in his town. Cole Sprouse plays Jughead Jones, and in the latest episode of Riverdale, we met his father, Forsythe ‘F.P.’ Jones – a member of the Southside Serpents; a bikers group.
As one of the members of that group, he’s currently extorting money from Hermione; Veronica’s mother and wife to the man that bought up what was previously a drive-in movie theater. It was up until that point Jughead’s home, as well as his place of work and somewhere he had many happy memories.
Speaking to ComicBook.com, Sprouse said of the two characters’ relationship: “I don’t know if that’s revealed until much later (his father being a part of him being made homeless), but I think Jughead’s pretty aware of where he stands (with his father).
“I don’t know if Jughead puts his trust in a figure like F.P. Would he be shocked to find out at episode 4 or at episode 7? Definitely not. You’ll watch episode 7 and you’ll come to find out with much more intensity just the relationship between F.P. and Jughead, and I think to find out that his dad is behind some kind of dubious underworking of the town is not really surprising to him in the slightest. It still disappoints him, sure, but it’s not surprising.”
He added that while viewers won’t be introduced to Jughead’s mother during the current first season of the series, “that does become quite a large narrative in the latter half and not seeing her is almost as impactful as seeing her in this instance.”
Riverdale continues on Wednesdays on The CW in the US, coming to Netflix in the UK a day later.
