Rita Simons' daughter is following in her footsteps with a leading role in a new drama.
The former 'EastEnders' actress revealed her 15-year-old daughter Maiya has been filming the new project since May and will finish in September but she is keeping tight-lipped on the details.
Speaking to Christine Lampard on ITV's 'Lorraine', Rita, 44, said: "Maiya is currently away – I can't say where and I can't say what she's doing – but it's gonna be in March it's coming out and she's doing a lead role in a drama, in a sci-fi.
"I'm very proud of her. She's been gone since the beginning of May and she's not back until the end of September. I can't say any more than that.
"She's only just 15, she's had to do all the cleaning and cooking, washing for herself. I'm very proud of her."
Rita shares children Maiya and Jaimee with her ex-husband Theo Silverston.
At six months, Maiya was diagnosed with being profoundly deaf in her right ear and having limited hearing in her left ear and last year Rita revealed she was struggling with masks during the COVID-19 pandemic as they made it impossible for her to lip read.
She said: "Masks, not denying the need for them…All I know is my deaf daughter has no idea what anyone is saying as she can't lip read a person in a mask…but we all wear ours anyway. Breaks my heart a little bit for her."
However, a cochlear implant has made a huge difference in Maiya's life.
Rita previously shared a video of her daughter singing and wrote on Instagram: "I don't normally put too many pics of my kids on social media but I am going against my rule this to show all you parents of deaf kids out there that #cochlearimplant CAN change your child's life.
"Maiya is almost profoundly deaf. Without her processor she hears nothing. She was implanted 6 yrs ago and this was her last night singing a song from the show I'm in right now #everybodystalkingaboutjamie #ProudMama (sic)."
