Ricky Wilson has made a dig at The Voice's rivals by insisting the show doesn't need to "rely" on novelty acts and has urged people to watch other shows if they prefer to see people "making fools of themselves"
The Kaiser Chiefs frontman - a new coach on the show alongside fellow newcomer Kylie Minogue and existing coaches Sir Tom Jones and will.i.am - appeared to hit out at the likes of 'Britain's Got Talent' and 'The X Factor' by insisting viewers should tune into those programmes if they want to see people "making fools of themselves" rather than singing.
Speaking at the launch of 'The Voice' in central London earlier today (06.01.14), he said: "We don't rely on the novelty of people being there who shouldn't be there later on. Everyone is getting better and better and it's down to the best singer.
"If you want to watch a show where a person who wins it at the end is the best singer and it's happened like a graph then this is the show for you.
"If you don't and you want to see people making fools of themselves then go to other stations."
Tom also insisted 'The Voice' is more "honest" than any of its rivals because the contestants are there to show off their vocal talent rather than surprise the audience with anything else other than their singing.
He said: "I think this is the most honest show. It's about singing, it's about performing. Nothing else. There is no shock value."
will then joked: "Except when I took my clothes off that one time."
The first episode of series three of 'The Voice' - which features a contestant whose day job is impersonating Nessa from sitcom 'Gavin and Stacey' - airs on Saturday (11.01.14) on BBC One at 7pm.
