Richard Bacon felt "touched" as he made his 'Good Morning Britain' return today (18.08.21).
The former 'Blue Peter' presenter appeared on the ITV breakfast news show alongside co-host Charlotte Hawkins, and he is pleased to have returned to the programme in a guest presenting capacity.
Speaking on 'GMB', he said: "Richard Arnold just said 'welcome home' out in the corridor. I was quite touched. It was quite sweet.
"It’s great to be here.
"For me, I haven’t done this for a couple of years because I live in America now and have a slightly silly job basically making game shows and producing game shows.
"My first love is news and current affairs and to actually come back and talk about things that matter … to be here on a day like this is a fascinating thing."
Richard is due to present alongside Kate Garraway on Thursday (19.08.21) and Friday (20.08.21), and the final episode of his latest stint will see him co-host with Ranvir Singh on Monday (23.08.21).
Several stars have filled in on the programme since Piers Morgan quit earlier this year.
Alastair Campbell, Adil Ray, Bill Turnbull and Richard Madeley have all stepped in alongside Susanna Reid, who is currently on a summer break.
Bacon filled in on 'GMB' in April 2019, and as he said his goodbyes to fellow presenter Kate on his final show, she revealed some "breaking news" - that the programme's editor wanted him back at some point.
She said: "Are you going to come back, Mr. Bacon? We've loved having you on the show."
Richard replied: "That is a matter for the editor of 'Good Morning Britain', the controller of ITV."
Kate then said: "Oh, I have breaking news. The editor says, 'Yes, you can come back. You will be very, very, very welcome.' "
Richard added: "OK, thank you very much indeed."
