Rebecca Adlington has suffered a miscarriage.
The 33-year-old Olympic swimmer was 12 weeks pregnant when she discovered the devastating news on Tuesday (23.08.22) that she and husband Andy Parsons had lost their baby.
Rebecca added that she has developed sepsis but is "slowly" recovering.
She wrote on Instagram: "On Tuesday me and Andy went to hospital for our 12 week scan only to discover we’ve had a miscarriage which resulted in emergency surgery. I managed to leave hospital Thursday only to be readmitted Friday. After a day of treating sepsis, a kidney infection and a fever I’m slowly on the mend. Long way to go but I’m in the right place.
"I can’t thank the hospitals and the staff enough, been so supportive. It’s such a devastating time but important in times like these we remember we aren’t alone and have so much support.
"@andrewparsons5 you have been my rock this week. Same with family and friends. We haven’t managed to process it all yet but I know with their support we’ll get through it.
"Once I’m able to leave hospital I’m extremely grateful I get to go home and give my 2 little ones the best hugs!"
Rebecca and Andy already have 18-month-old son Albie together and she also shares seven-year-old daughter Summer with ex-husband Harry Needs.
Rebecca and Andy tied the knot last year at Scarlet Hall in Cheshire, north west England.
Andy broke down in tears when he saw Rebecca walking down the aisle with her father Steve, and her daughter Summer.
Speaking in a joint interview, Andy said: "The second it kicked in, I thought, 'Oh, you've really pushed me to the limit with this,' and I felt my composure start to go.
"Then I saw Summer coming down the aisle and then Albie and that really got me.
"So when Becky started walking towards me with her dad, I just lost it. She had the most beautiful smile on her face. She looked incredible."
