Ratched creator Ryan Murphy and lead star Sarah Paulson will be left smiling from ear to ear, when they discover that the show has become the most successful original Season 1 on Netflix this year.
The film and TV platform will be chuffed to see the overwhelming response to the series, after ordering two seasons of the show upfront, before a single second had been streamed.
Netflix don't usually release viewing figures for their original content, so when they do, you know they're infinitely happy with the feedback.
Telling the origin story of the titular nurse Mildred Ratched, who was the primary antagonist in the 1962 novel and 1975 film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, the series delves into the character's arrival in Northern California, seeking employment at a leading psychiatric hospital.
Already, unsettling experiments are being conducted under the hospital's roof on unwilling patients. Nurse Ratched may present herself as the complete opposite of those who would do such a thing, but she is on a mission to infiltrate the health care system.
Why exactly? That's best left unsaid. Let's just say that despite her stylish exterior, there is a darkness growing within that will see her evolve into one of the most terrifying and monstrous villains in existence.
An incredible cast of familiar faces star alongside Paulson, including Cynthia Nixon, Judy Davis, Sharon Stone, Jon Jon Briones, Finn Wittrock, Charlie Carver, Alice Englert, Amanda Plummer, Corey Stoll, Sophie Okonedo and Vincent D'Onofrio.
Murphy and Paulson served as executive producers on the series, along with Ian Brennan, Alexis Martin Woodall, Aleen Keshishian, Jacob Epstein, Jennifer Salt, Margaret Riley, Michael Douglas, Robert Mitas and Tim Minear.
After signing a five-year development deal with Netflix for $300 million back in 2018, Murphy will welcome the good news.
He had previously released comedy-drama The Politician - set to make a comeback later this year with a second season - and period miniseries Hollywood, which saw mixed reviews.
He's also now working on a true crime drama for Netflix, based on the victims of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
Ratched though is without a doubt his most talked-about Netflix work to-date. With a planned second season, the showrunner has a lot of high expectations to live up to when it does eventually return.
Paulson meanwhile, has already taken to her social media to thank "each and every one" of her fans who have helped make the show such a success. She wrote:
All episodes of Ratched Season 1 are available now on Netflix.
